Statement from COLAB Regarding Lafourche Parish Council on Coastal Lawsuits

June

The Lafourche Parish Council voted to reject coastal lawsuits targeting the oil and gas industry in a 6 to 1 vote — a major win for the thousands of workers, businesses, and families who depend on energy to drive our local economy.

Christy Zeringue, PCED, President and CEO of COLAB, spoke before the Council ahead of the vote, emphasizing the critical role the energy sector plays in Lafourche Parish and the entire Bayou Region. The oil and gas industry supports over 7,000 jobs locally, across more than 150 companies, contributing nearly $200 million in annual wages. These are not just statistics — they represent the livelihoods of thousands of families and the strength of small businesses across our community.

COLAB remains committed to protecting the industries that form the foundation of our economy, while also preparing for the future by supporting innovation in offshore production.

We thank the Lafourche Parish Council for their leadership and stand ready to continue working alongside them to preserve opportunity and prosperity for the Bayou Region.
