Firms certified eligible by the U.S. Department of Commerce are eligible to receive 75% reimbursement for projects up to $30,000, and 50% reimbursement for projects from $30,000 to $150,000.  The certification process takes approximately 5 months.  Certified firms are eligible for the following:

A diagnostic analysis of the firm's operations including their internal and external operating environment.  This analysis provides the framework for all further assistance.An assistance plan outlining strengths, weaknesses, potential problems and a rational strategy for recovery. Each plan is tailored specifically for the participating firm.  All assistance is provided through professional consultants selected in a bidding process by the participating firm.  Strategies for recovery may include, but is not limited to:

• Microsoft Information System training
• ISO 9000 accreditation
• Research and product development
• Marketing and sales
• Product engineering
• Manufacturing process
• Finance
• Administration
• Management structure
• Employee training

SWTAAC cannot pay for employee salaries, new construction, buildings, land  or equipment, but can pay for software.  Assistance request can be submitted for up to two years after certification.

To become certified, an interested firm must show:

• A decline in sales or production in the most recent 12 months as compared to the prior 12 months. 
• A decline in one product line accounting for at least 25% of total sales is also accepted.
• A 5% decline in employment

The following will be collected during the application process:

• Information on related firms
• Economic history
• Articles produced and sold
• Production and employment data
• Financial statements
• Federal income tax returnsQuarterly employment reports
• Customer references
