St. Mary Parish

St. Mary’s many industrial and recreational opportunities allow one to make a good living and make living good. With an abundance of natural resources, St. Mary’s economy is supported by the area’s oil and gas, marine transportation, agricultural, and commercial fishing industries.

Access into the parish is made possible by different travel routes. US Highway 90/I-49 runs the length of the parish from west to east. St. Mary’s 6,000 miles of navigable waterways with connections to the Gulf of Mexico, the Atchafalaya River, the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and ports located at both ends of the parish make it a natural home for marine related industry.

The same features that make St. Mary Parish ideal for marine related industry also make it ideal for outdoor activity. Noted by National Geographic Traveler as hauntingly beautiful land, St. Mary is home to cypress forests and swamps which serve as habitats to black bear and bald eagle communities. The Atchafalaya River Basin is a popular spot for recreational fishing and home to a Bass Pro Fishing Tour stop. These outdoor activities contribute to Louisiana’s reputation as the Sportsman’s Paradise
