Sound Recording Investor Tax Credit

Overview

The Sound Recording Investor Tax Credit program provides a tax credit up to 25% of qualified production and infrastructure expenditures for state-certified sound recording projects.

 

Benefits

The Sound Recording Investor Tax Credit program provides a refundable tax credit up to 25% of qualified production or infrastructure (e.g., sound recording studios) expenditures. The program is subject to a cap of $3 million in tax credits each calendar year. Projects qualifying for the tax credits after the annual cap has been reached will automatically be placed in the queue to receive tax credits in the next calendar year.

 

Eligibility

Investments must be directly related to production of a sound recording or to the infrastructure of a sound recording studio.

Must invest a minimum of $15,000 in Louisiana within a 12-month period and must provide advance notice of intent (i.e., initial certification) to apply for the Sound Recording Investor Tax Credit.

Only those infrastructure projects permanently domiciled in Louisiana are eligible.

How to Apply

An Advance Notification should be submitted in writing, indicating the applicant's intent to use the Sound Recording Investor Tax Credit program, to Louisiana Economic Development's Office of Entertainment Industry Development. An Advance Notification must be filed before any production, purchasing, hiring, or construction activity begins.

Once a completed application is received, it will be initially certified or denied within 180 days.

A complete application must be submitted with supporting documentation.
