Infrastructure

 Infrastructure to support economic growth is a critical component of the Bayou Region.  A number of support organizations contribute to the management of infrastructure improvements. Click on a link below to learn more or contact the South Louisiana Economic Council.

  

 

Morganza to the Gulf Levee Project - The Morganza to the Gulf Hurricane Protection Project will build a series of levees around the southern part of Terrebonne Parish to protect residents and property from up to a Category 3 storm.

 

  

 

Port Fourchon - Designed as a multi-use port, Port Fourchon is equipped to accommodate and service the offshore oil, commercial fishing, seafood and shipping industries, along with serving tourism and recreational needs.

Port of Morgan City - With an unrestricted channel, 20 feet deep and 400 feet wide, Morgan City is the focal point of waterborne transportation in four directions.

Terrebonne Port Commission - The Port of Terrebonne is located near the Houma Navigational Canal within one-half mile of its intersection with the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. The Houma Navigation Canal is a direct route to the Gulf of Mexico and also ties the Port of Terrebonne with Port Fourchon, one of the fastest growing ports in the U.S.

 

  

 

Restore or Retreat - Restore or Retreat targets coastal restoration projects, specifically the Third Delta Conveyance Channel that would help rebuild the Barataria-Terrebonne Estuary.

Port of West St. Mary - Located on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway along Louisiana's central coast just 18 miles from the city of Franklin.

South Central Planning and Development Commission - The South Central Planning and Development Commission helps to oversee several efforts for the improvement of the River and Bayou Region.

  

I-49 /North-South Corridor - The I-49 Regional Task Force is an effort to upgrade US 90 to interstate standard between Lafayette and the Westbank of New Orleans. The North-South Corridor project aims to build a new road to give residents a straight path from U.S. 90 near Gray to I-10 in the event of an evacuation order due to an impending hurricane.
  LA 1 Coalition -The LA 1 Coalition is an effort to build a new four-lane interstate-type highway system from US 90 to the Gulf of Mexico.
  Houma-Terrebonne Airport Commission - Administration of the airport located in Houma is the responsibility of the Houma-Terrebonne Airport Commission. The responsibilities of the Commission include construction, maintenance, management of airport employees, leasing property and promoting aviation safety in Terrebonne Parish.
