The parish of Assumption anchors the Bayou Region at its northern boundaries yet connects directly to the Gulf of Mexico by way of its extensive waterways to the south. Bordering the Atchafalaya Basin - one of the world's largest natural water systems - the parish is a natural setting for fisheries, marine transportation, industrial fabrication and recreation. The parish holds large tracts of developable lands with access to the Mississippi River port system, rail, and roadways connecting north/south by LA Highway 70 and east/west by LA Highways 1 and 308 and I-49/U.S. 90.
