From SLEC's founding in 1984, there has always been strong ties between SLEC and the Nicholls State University College of Business.  SLEC acts as the College of Businesses outreach arm into the business community by actively promoting the faculty, facilities and expertise of the College of Business. The principal mission of the College of Business is to prepare students to participate in society and the work force as educated individuals able to compete in a dynamic global economy. Mission development is a continuous process involving input from faculty, students (current and former), and the business community. In order to enrich the learning process, the College also contributes to scholarship through applied research and instructional development. In addition to providing support to the employer community through the development of marketable skills in potential employees, the College also enhances the competitive capabilities of regional businesses.

The location of the University, in the center of the nation's wetlands, and in an agricultural and industrial economy, influences educational programs and necessitates that:

• the college's first responsibility is the instruction of students. The College is dedicated to continuous improvement of teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The primary emphasis is on the baccalaureate degree programs. The graduate program is the secondary area of emphasis, but is also of major importance.
• the College accepts a major responsibility for expanding the base of knowledge through intellectual contributions. These contributions include a primary emphasis on practical applications of theory through applied research and a secondary emphasis on instructional development with very limited mission emphasis given to basic research.
• the College also recognizes a responsibility to extend its teaching and problem-solving services to the community, and an obligation to utilize its capabilities for the advancement of the University, the general community, and academic and professional organizations through professional interaction.

The College of Business Administration Professional Sales Initiative (PSI) is an innovative, hands-on experience that brings the realm of professional selling into a sharper focus.  While primarily an extension of the curriculum of the Department of Management and Marketing, PSI is also focused on assisting local businesse by engaging area sales professionals in the PSI.
